Teams of civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical and software engineers as well as design engineering technology students have earned national awards for their content knowledge and for building specialized vehicles and robots. Trine's student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers has been honored as one of the top in the nation. About 90 percent of Trine students complete an internship, co-op or other experiential learning. Over the last eight years, more than 99 percent were employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduating. Trine has a reputation for academic rigor and success. Credit may be allowed in subjects that parallel Trine programs, provided the student earned a grade of C or better in the course from an accredited college or university.

Counselors work closely with those who wish to transfer to ensure a smooth transition to Trine. Graduates of community or junior colleges and students who have attended other colleges and universities are eligible for transfer. In addition to the standard admission requirements, the Allen School of Engineering and Computing requires a semester of trigonometry, a year of chemistry, and a year of physics. Standard admission requirements include English (four years), mathematics (three years), science (three years), and social studies (two years). Applications are considered complete once the office of admission has received the application (online, no application fee) and an official high school transcript. Trine has a rolling admission process, and applicants are notified of their status within two weeks after completing the application. Interested students are encouraged to make individual visits to campus and meet the faculty and students. Selection is made without regard to race, religion, color, gender, sexual orientation or age. Trine University admits applicants on the basis of scholastic achievement and academic potential.
